LORENZO CODE OF ORDINANCES
 

 

ARTICLE 10.100 SPEED REGULATIONS

State Law reference-Authority to establish or alter prima facie speed limits, V.T.C.A., Transportation Code, Sec. 542.202 (12).

Sec.10.101 Speed Limits of Thirty (30) Miles Per Hour

(a) It shall hereafter be unlawful for any person to drive or operate a motor vehicle upon any street, roadway or highway in the city limits of the City of Lorenzo, Texas, at a greater rate of speed than thirty (30) miles per hour, except where speed zone signs are erected indicating a higher or lower rate of speed, in which case the speed indicated by the speed zone signs shall be the maximum speed permitted. And it shall be unlawful for any person to operate a motor vehicle in excess to the speed limits indicated on any official speed zone sign.

(b) The speed zones established by this article shall include all of U.S. 82 within the corporate limits of the city of Lorenzo, Texas; the maximum legal speed limit shall be as follows:

(1) Beginning at the west city limit the maximum legal speed limit for eastbound traffic shall be 60 m.p.h. during the daytime and 55 m.p.h. during the nighttime for a distance of .200 miles; thence 55 m.p.h for a distance of .200 miles; thence 40 m.p.h. for a distance of .200 miles; thence 55 m.p.h. for a distance of .200 miles; thence 60 m.p.h. during the daytime and 55 m.p.h during the nighttime for a distance of .199 miles to the east city limits of Lorenzo, the east city limits being the centerline of F. M. 378 to the south.

(2) Beginning at the east city limit, the east city limit being the centerline of F.M. 378 to the south, the maximum legal speed limit for westbound traffic shall be 60 m.p.h. during the daytime and 55 m.p.h. during the nighttime for a distance of .199 miles; thence 55 m.p.h. for .200 miles; thence 40 m.p.h. for a distance of .200 miles; thence 55 m.p.h. for a distance of .200 miles; thence 60 m.p.h. during the daytime and 55 m.p.h. during the nighttime for a distance of .200 miles to the west city limits.

(c) The speed zones established by this article shall include all of that portion of F.M. 378 at the east city limit from U.S. 82 to the south city limit of the City of Lorenzo, Texas; the maximum legal speed limit shall be as follows:
Beginning at a point on U.S. 82, this point being at the east city limit, the maximum legal speed limit for southbound traffic shall be 45 m.p.h. for a distance of .023 miles to the south city limit.

(d) Any person violating any of the provisions of this article shall, upon conviction thereof, be fined in accordance with the general penalty provision found in Section 1.106 of this code.

Sec.10.102 Speed Limit of 20 Miles Per Hour

(a) That the prima facie speed limit established by article 6701D, Section 166 (a) (1), Vernon's Texas civil Statutes, is altered and changed for all vehicles to twenty (20) miles per hour during the hours from 8:00 A.M. until 9:00 A.M. and 12:01 P.M. until 4:00 P.M., of the days of Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday throughout the year, except during the period of time from June 1 of each year until August 15 of each year, on the following described highways, streets, and avenues in the corporate limits of the City of Lorenzo, Crosby County, Texas, to wit:

(1) On both sides of Harrison Avenue from a point 180 feet south of the center line of fourth street to a point 180 feet north of the center line of Third Street.

(2) On both sides of Fourth Street from a point in the center line of Harrison A venue to a point in the east line of Polk Avenue.

(3) On both sides of Third Street from a point in the center line of Harrison Avenue to a point in the east line of Polk Avenue.

( 4) On both sides of Polk A venue from a point 180 feet south of the center line of Fourth Street to a point 180 feet north of the center line of Third Street.

(b) That the city administrator is authorized and directed to cause the placing of signs so as to clearly define the limits of the prima facie areas set out in this article.
